By value
The 2009 Bordeaux vintage dominated trade in terms of both value and volume 2012. The high prices and levels of demand for First Growths ensure that they are still taking a large share of Liv-ex trade by value (especially Lafite and Mouton Rothschild), but in terms of volume they were beaten by a host of good quality – and far more affordable – wines from the Right Bank and Parker’s Magical 20: Pavie, Montrose and Pontet Canet 2009 appear in both tables.
Whereas the wines most traded by value were exclusively from Bordeaux, the table of trade by volume shows other regions coming to the fore. Super Tuscan Sassicaia 2009 – scored 98 by James Suckling – proved popular with buyers, while Champagne Taittinger Comtes 2002 racked up 1.3% of trade by volume, despite only being released in the summer.
We have used the Liv-ex December Mid Price; where this was not available, the asterisk (*) designates that the Market Price has been used.
