Since the start of 2013 the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 has risen 2.7%. After spending much of the second part of 2012 hovering below the 300 level, it has now reached 310.64.
Which of the First Growths is pushing it up? With a trend for off-vintage Firsts prevalent at the end of 2012, January has seen the more acclaimed vintages back in play. In August, Mouton Rothschild 2003 was trading for as little as £2,660 per 12x75 – the same as it was in March 2010. Now it is creeping up, having traded yesterday for £3,285. This is still £1,000 cheaper than the price it was trading for at peak. Do buyers perceive value in the First Growth market once again?
