Yesterday the Financial Times published its latest ‘Wealth indices’ for fine wine, classic cars and art. Over the last three years classic cars have almost doubled in price, climbing relentlessly. Art has proven more volatile but is still showing a 22% gain over the same period.
Fine wine, meanwhile, has dropped 7%. The Liv-ex 100 is currently 25% below its peak level of June 2011. Looking at these measures of wealth raises a question: have the well-heeled decided to give up drinking?
