Yesterday the Financial Times published its latest ‘Wealth
indices’ for fine wine, classic cars and art. Over the last three years classic
cars have almost doubled in price, climbing relentlessly. Art has proven more
volatile but is still showing a 22% gain over the same period.
Fine wine, meanwhile, has dropped 7%. The Liv-ex 100 is
currently 25% below its peak level of June 2011. Looking at these measures of
wealth raises a question: have the well-heeled decided to give up drinking?
